There are cars that transform a space the moment they pull in. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is one of them. When its distinctive gullwing doors swing upwards, the crowd holds its breath for a moment. From 12 to 14 June 2026, that is exactly what will happen – on one of the most thrilling stages in the world of motorsport: the ADAC Nürburgring Classic.

More than just a car – an icon with a history

The SLS AMG was the first Mercedes with gullwing doors since the legendary 300 SL, which was built between 1954 and 1957. It was the first vehicle developed entirely in-house by AMG – and every engine was hand-assembled by a single skilled worker at the AMG plant in Affalterbach, as documented by a plaque bearing an engraved signature. No assembly line, no compromise – pure craftsmanship.

Under the long bonnet lies the M 159 – a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 571 hp, positioned as a front-mid-engine behind the front axle. This layout noticeably improves driving dynamics. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h. Anyone who has ever heard the sound of this naturally aspirated engine at high revs will never forget it.

Produced from 2010 to 2014, the SLS AMG is now a sought-after collector’s car with second-hand prices ranging from €170,000 to €250,000 – and rising. The limited-edition Final Edition was produced in a run of just 350 units.

One club, one track, one moment

The SLS AMG Club is gathering for an extraordinary event at the 2026 Nürburgring Classic. The programme includes track days on the Grand Prix circuit and a special run on the legendary Nordschleife – one of the most demanding circuits in the world. It is rare to see such a concentration of these cars in one place – and certainly not against such a backdrop.

The Nürburgring Classic is not just a tribute to historic racing cars. It is also the perfect stage for cars that have long since made history through their character, sound and charisma.
