Race | Grand Prix Circuit | Weekend | Lurani Trophy

Historic motorsport at the highest level: The Lurani Trophy brings the Formula Junior icons of the 50s and 60s back to the race track - living history in motion.

Formula Junior: junior class with legendary status

At the end of the 1950s, Formula Junior was the key to a great motorsport career - a springboard to Formula 1. A generation of drivers who would later become world champions competed in technically simple but cleverly designed racing cars: Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt or John Surtees - they all once drove Formula Junior. The racing series was founded in 1958 by the Italian Count Giovanni "Johnny" Lurani and was represented on five continents within a few years. Today, this spirit lives on in the FIA Lurani Trophy for historic Formula Junior cars.

FIA Lurani Trophy at the Nürburgring Classic 2025

From 13 to 15 June 2025, the Lurani Trophy will be back at the Nürburgring - as part of the traditional Nürburgring Classic. Embedded in the spectacular event weekend, original Formula Junior cars from 1958 to 1963 will compete with participants from all over Europe and beyond. The series is recognised as an official FIA championship and is one of the most popular international racing classes in historic motorsport. The cars are as diverse as the era itself: from front-engine ladder frames to the revolutionary monocoque with a mid-engine.

Two races on the Grand Prix circuit

Exciting for drivers and spectators alike: the Lurani Trophy at the Nürburgring Classic comprises a qualifying session and two races. The races take place on the challenging Grand Prix circuit - a terrain that suits the delicate, lightweight Formula Junior monoposti perfectly. The races are not only a look back at the technical development of this era, but also still provide thrilling motorsport today with close duels and international driver diversity.
