The Historic F3 1000 cc European Trophy embodies an uncompromising, purist approach to historic formula racing. The series features faithfully restored cars that do away entirely with modern aerodynamics and electronic aids. This creates an authentic driving experience that preserves the technical simplicity and character of 1960s formula racing.

Pure formula racing without modern technology
The focus is not only on speed and competition, but also on preserving historic racing technology. Each car is a technical artefact of its time, aiming to authentically recreate the era of early Formula 3 on the track.

Community and historical aspirations among the European field
A key feature of the series is the European community of participants. Drivers from many different countries come together at the events, which are characterised as much by sporting ambition as by a friendly, family atmosphere. Alongside the competition, originality and historical accuracy play a crucial role.
The series was founded in 2001 to bring the first generation of Formula 3 cars with 1000cc engines back into active racing. These cars date from 1964 to 1970 – a period when Formula 3 was regarded as the most important junior class in international motorsport.

Legendary cars and big names in motorsport
Only original or faithfully restored Formula 3 racing cars with 1,000 cc engines are eligible to compete. Typical manufacturers include Brabham, Lotus, Chevron, March and Tecno. Due to their high-revving engines, the cars are often referred to as ‘Screamers’ and continue to define the characteristic sound of that era to this day.
The series also combines historic technology with big names in motorsport. Many future Formula 1 stars, such as Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt and Ronnie Peterson, began their careers in precisely these cars. As such, the Historic F3 1000 cc European Trophy offers not only racing but also a living piece of motorsport history.
